family portraits faq
Q.Where are you located, and what areas do you service?
Bluefire Photography is located in San Antonio, Texas. I serve the San Antonio area and surrounding areas.
Q. What is the best time of day for a portrait session?
The two times of day with the most beautiful light for family portrait sessions are early morning and just before sunset. The last hour before the sun goes down is known to photographers as the “magic hour” and as long as there aren’t clouds in the sky, images taken at this time will be dreamy, glowy and gorgeous. I love to shoot during the magic hour. However that generally does not work well for young childern. I always recommend a early morining session when young children are in the portraits.
Q. How many people can I bring to the photography session?
5 people is the max per session, you may add extra people for an additional charge.
Q. What should I wear?
This is a tough one, but there are a few general rules:
1) For groups, coordinate colors and styles and minimize patterns.
2) Darker colors give a more formal feel, while lighter colors are more casual.
3) Dress from head to toe, don't assume your feet will not be photographed or that your son's dirty fingernails won't show up. Also, don't fear bare feet- especially on children; not only are they cute, but they look better than dirty shoe-soles!
4)For adult women, the choice of clothing becomes much more difficult because we are very self-conscious about our bodies. We are all afraid of the "double chin," the "flabby arms," the "tummy" and the "unsightly knees." You can avoid all of these things by wearing clothing that fits properly, has three-quarter or long sleeves, and a lower neckline and hemline. Dark colors are more slimming, especially when worn on the lower part of the body and even a small heel can make your legs look great! What's most important is to wear something you feel beautiful in, because when you feel good, you look good. Accentuate the features you love, and downplay those you are uncomfortable with, and if you still have concerns, let us know what body part(s) you are uncomfortable with and we'll take care of the rest! Don't let your self-consciousness keep you out of the photographs- you ARE beautiful, and we will prove it to you!
Q. I want to book you, what do I need to do?
Please email so we can discuss packages and locations. A signed contract and a deposit of 1/2 of the session is required to secure time on my calendar.
Q. What if I'm running late for our session?
Make sure you arrive to your session 15 minutes early, showing up late for your session will result in a shorter session time.
Q. Are you the person who takes our portrait photographs?
YES! I will always be the person taking your pictures. I don't subcontract other photographers.
Q. Does is cost more for location?
Yes and no, certain locations charge a fee to use the grounds, which is paid by the client. I only charge an extra travel fee when we go outside loop 1604 for the location.
Q. Can I purchase a gift voucher?
Yes, I sell gift vouchers all year round, making them the perfect gift for new parents, work colleagues and godparents who are looking for a quality lasting gift that they can cherish for the rest of their lives. Vouchers are also a popular gift to mark family gatherings, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements or any special occasions.
Q. What if my children run riot?
No problem, as a mother of two I am quite used to high spirits, and strong wills. A laid back approach usually wins through in time.
Q. Can we have our pets in the photographs?
Absolutely! They are part of the family.
Q. Posed or Candid’s?
Why not BOTH? Posed are always great, but people don't always like the stiff look. I like to get a combination of posed and candid shots - sometimes it takes longer.
Q. What happens if a photographer gets sick, or we need to reschedule?
In the unfortunate event the photographer is sick; I will call you immediately and find a time to reschedule. If you need to reschedule, please call me as soon as possible. If I am not notified of your need to cancel a fee will be charged.
Q. Do I need to supply any props?
I love to incorporate special items in our pictures such as a blanket, doll, or toy that your child can't live without. So please feel free to bring them along.
